Leeds reviving their interest in this young Championship star would be a great move by Bielsa

Leeds United opinion – Bielsa must sign Jarrod Bowen in the summer

After losing at home to Sheffield United, Leeds United are now third in the Championship table, with eight games to go. They are currently in a situation where missing out on a top-two finish (automatic promotion) might have great repercussions.

It’s true that the Whites can still qualify for top-flight football by winning the playoffs, but it would be a stern task.

The saddening thing for Marcelo Bielsa’s men is that they were cruising at the top of the table until the festive period. Since then, lack of squad depth of equal quality has hindered their progress big time.

Furthermore, the departure of Samuel Saiz forced the manager to play right winger Pablo Hernandez in central attacking midfield for a few games. Even though the Spaniard is back in his original position, there is a lack of quality in the creative department and in the wide areas.

For sorting out the latter, here’s why Leeds should contemplate on signing Jarrod Bowen from Hull City.

The Daily Mail linked Leeds with a January move for the player but that didn’t happen back then. Here’s why the Whites must pursue their interest in the summer.

Bowen has the quality to help Leeds

Jarrod Bowen has had a terrific season so far, scoring 21 goals and providing three assists in 38 appearances. He can play on the right wing, as a second striker, or as one of the number 10s in a 4-1-4-1 formation.

The 22-year-old is a top-class player who knows how to create goal-scoring opportunities and doesn’t shy away from having pops at goal. He has attempted an average of 2.5 shots per game.

Moreover, he is very good at taking people on and dribbling past them to create space for a pass or shot towards the goal. His dribbling rate of 1.5 shows that he is pretty consistent at it.

The best thing about Bowen is his willingness to work for the team without the ball. He puts in a tackle or two to stop the opposition from having easy possession of the ball. He has made them at an average of 1.3 per game this season. (Whoscored.com)

All in all, he is good enough to enhance the quality of the Leeds front-line. No wonder the 22-year-old was linked (h/t Football.London) with Tottenham Hotspur a few months ago. He almost joined Cardiff in January but rejected the move due to the Emiliano Sala tradegy.

Conclusion

It is clear that Leeds United require more quality in their front-line, especially in the creative department. Getting Bowen would help them in improving the wide attacking areas and it would also aid them to improve the number 10 position.
