Why Manchester United must use Daley Blind as bait to sign Justin Kluivert

Manchester United are reportedly interested in signing Ajax star Justin Kluivert this summer but if they do, the Red Devils might have to sacrifice Daley Blind and utilise him as bait. Incidentally, the Dutch giants are intent on re-signing Blind and are willing to let Kluivert leave only if they receive the defender in exchange. The Manchester United star’s contract will run out by the end of next term and Ajax are understood to be looking to take full advantage of the situation.

The versatile Blind is a product of Ajax’s youth academy and after making a mark for himself in the first-team, the 27-year-old sealed a move to Old Trafford before the 2014/15 campaign.

Although he was used quite frequently in the initial stages, injuries and lack of form hampered his progress and this season, he has appeared merely 5 times for United and he might not hesitate to exit the club in search of regular game time. The chance to move back to his former side might appeal to Blind.

Hence, United must definitely sanction this deal, especially since they could land the exciting teenage sensation in return.

Kluivert is being chased by a lot of elite European clubs and for right reasons. He is one of the most promising young stars in the making and could work wonders for any club he may join. At present, Kluivert is in negotiations with Ajax over a new contract and this seems like the ideal time for Jose Mourinho to swoop in and make a move.

Known for his blistering pace and creativity, Kluivert has netted 7 goals and provided 4 assists 28 appearances across competitions for Ajax this season. An out-and-out attacker, he can easily fit in either wing for United – preferably, on the right-hand side.

As far as the left-wing is concerned, United have the likes of Alexis Sanchez and Marcus Rashford and to be fair, they do not have a solid figure to take charge of the right-wing. To that end, signing Kluivert can prove to be advantageous for Mourinho.

Thus, the Red Devils have a good opportunity at hand to offload an underperforming player to bring in a sensational young attacker and it can result in a win-win situation for all parties involved. However, it remains to be seen if they can convince the young star to move since he has been quite vocal about his commitment to playing with the Dutch giants on a long-term basis.

Nevertheless, if Mourinho succeeds in bringing him to Old Trafford in exchange for Blind, it will be a solid business deal.
