Two Players Who Tottenham Should Re-sign In The Summer

Tottenham have grown to become one of the most improved sides in Europe since Mauricio Pochettino took charge. From a club destined to play only Europa League every season, they have become fierce title challengers. Rewind four years and one could find inconsistency, lack of intent and a leaky Spurs defence with lesser energy.

Right now, they are an amalgamation of quality in youth, craft and most importantly, balance. Despite being a feared side in England, they have struggled to win trophies and claim titles to their name. They did finish with a massive 86 points last term but were outshone by a Antonio Conte inspired Chelsea side. Here, let’s analyse and discuss two former Lilywhites who could bring some prestige to North London.

Federico Fazio

Fazio was signed by Spurs on 26th August 2014 but due to a number of feeble displays and accumulated red cards, he was sent back to former club Sevilla on loan. The season after, he featured 48 times for Roma and fairly impressed. This season too, he has been a pivotal figure for the Italian club at the back.

With speculation over Toby Alderweireld’s future at North London, Fazio could be a fine addition to their ranks, along with solid defenders like Jan Vertonghen, Davinson Sanchez and Eric Dier. Fazio is aggressive in approach as he closes down players quickly, stands firm and tackles sharply.

He is surely not one of those who would get squared up easily. Aerially, he is almost unbeatable. The Argentine is a mammoth figure at the back and hardly gives any breathing space to the forwards. He is physical, too rash at times, but that’s what the Premier League needs sometimes.

Gareth Bale

The Real Madrid star has been heavily linked to a number of English clubs, including his former side Tottenham. Bale has been plagued by injuries and the Galacticos might offload him as they seek to land the likes of Harry Kane, Eden Hazard and David De Gea.

Bale is a gifted player who possesses exceptional attributes. He can outpace any defender, run past them with ease, accelerate forward and use his strength to beat the opponent. Spurs need a winger who can take the attack forward single-handedly, express some speed and provide the cutting edge.

Without a doubt, Bale would be the best man for the task. The Welshman has an unbelievable finishing and set-piece ability too, which could double Spurs’ chances of scoring goals apart from Harry Kane’s services (if he stays).
