The Sun suggests that West Ham United are ready to sell misfit Carlos Sanchez in January for as little as £1m.
Sanchez, 33, moved from Fiorentina to England with West Ham on a two-year deal. He made a return to the Premier League on a free transfer.
Since his return in 2018, Sanchez has featured in only 13 games for the Hammers. A knee injury had kept him out for seven months last season and this term, he has struggled to make it to the squad, appearing only 4 times.
West Ham are currently without a win in their last 7 league games and are just above the relegation zone. Manuel Pellegrini made 10 signings last summer when he took charge of West Ham and Sanchez was one of them, and completed his move on the transfer deadline day.
In spite of injuries to certain important players this term, Sanchez seems to be a misfit for the team and hasn’t been a part of the squad for the majority of the season.
The Colombian’s best days were when he played for Valenciennes FC in France. In 190 appearances for the French outfit, he scored 10 goals for them and provided 7 assists. His previous stint in England with Aston Villa was not up to the mark either.
After moving to Fiorentina in 2017, he had a decent time in Italy and then moved elsewhere.
He was brought by Pellegrini to West Ham to solve their midfield issues, but the player, who is at the twilight of his career, could not offer more to the team.
The midfielder’s contract with the Hammers comes to an end when the season concludes and West ham are ready to sell him in January so that they can make space for a new arrival.
It does make sense because Sanchez hasn’t been able to contribute much to the team and has fallen out-of-favour under Pellegrini, who himself is under fire for their lack of form.
Conor Coventry, who is a West Ham U23 player, can benefit from Carlos Sanchez’s move away from the club. The Colombian’s presence has made it difficult for the 19-year-old to get a place in Pellegrini’s squad, which means he could fit the bench role and could play for a few minutes in the senior team.
It would be good for both West Ham and Sanchez to part ways with each other. The Hammers would be able to fill the game with a new recruit or reserve team players. On the other hand, Sanchez can play in a league that suits his age.
West Ham must take necessary steps to see his departure from London and should go with £1m for the player to speed up his exit in January.
