Why Micheal Keane Would Be Perfect For Ronald Koeman’s Everton

Ronald Koeman has been a busy man this summer as he is looking all over Europe to improve his squad for the next season. The manager is expected to lose his top goal-scorer in Romelu Lukaku this summer and Koeman is trying hard to replace him with the perfect player.

But he is also making sure that he improves other areas of the squad and one position that needs immediate repair is the centre-back position. According to club’s official website, Everton have solved that problem once and for all as they have landed Burnley’s Michael Keane.

The former Manchester United star is one of the most exciting defenders on show in the Premier League and he has been in terrific form for the Clarets in the last couple of seasons. He was deemed surplus to requirements by Louis van Gaal during his time at Old Trafford but he has since grown into one of the best in the league and has also earned a place in the English national team under Gareth Southgate.

The player’s fee could reach up to £30m including add ons, a club record fee, but in this inflated market, he is a steal. Capable of dominating his box and frustrating his opponents, Keane is a no-nonsense defender who sticks to the basics for most of the game. He is a decent passer of the ball but is happier thumping it out of danger regularly.

At Turf Moor, he played in a compact system which gave him ample cover all around. But that will not be the case at the Goodison Park, where he will have to adjust to the needs quickly.

The Toffees sold John Stones to Manchester City for a hefty fee and are yet to replace him in the first team. Phil Jagielka was decent last season but he is at the wrong end of his career and is not expected to be the first choice next season.

He was partnered by Ashley Williams, who was decent at times, but Koeman needs a genuine centre-back who can walk into the first team next season and improve the backline. Keane fits the bill perfectly.

The former Swansea City defender is 32 now, and his experience will blend in well with Keane’s youth and this could be the perfect balance that Everton need at the back to blow teams away.
