Inter Milan’s Matias Vecino is in demand in the transfer window, with Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur interested in the player. The midfielder is currently on World cup duty with Uruguay in Russia. Vecino, 26, can add quality to both Tottenham and Chelsea, who are vying for his signature.

Simply put, Chelsea need Vecino more

Chelsea had a disappointing campaign last term as they failed to qualify for the Champions League. The Blues struggled in various departments but their clearest weakness was the midfield. Antonio Conte tried many combinations but failed to form a stable midfield partnership as Chelsea struggled to dominate games. It’s evident that Chelsea need Vecino’s quality much more than Tottenham, who already have a solid midfield.

Tottenham have the likes of Mousa Dembele, Eric Dier and Victor Wanayama in their midfield, while Harry Winks is already working his way up the pecking order. Interestingly, Spurs want Vecino as a replacement for Dembele, who has been linked with a move away from the club this summer.

Chelsea have one of the best holding midfielders in the world in N’Golo Kante. However, the Blues are yet to find the perfect partner for Kante. Vecino, who was in good form for Inter last season, could be the answer to Chelsea’s midfield woes.

Although Vecino likes to sit deep and set the tempo of the match, the Uruguayan possesses the skills to make an impact going forward. Known for his technique and passing ability, Vecino is also very efficient on the defensive front.

He averaged an impressive 2 tackles per game over the course of the 2017/18 season. In terms of passing, Vecino keeps it tidy as he completed 88% of his passes for Inter last season. He made 29 Serie A appearances for Inter last term, scoring three goals and providing as many assists.

Vecino could prove to be the type of player Chelsea need in their midfield to finish in the top-four next season. However, it remains to be seen if the Blues manage to sign the 26-year-old, who joined Inter from Fiorentina only last summer.
