English news outlet Wigan Today (h/t TeamTalk) has reported that Celtic have joined the race for Nick Powell. The 25-year-old is tied to Wigan Athletic only until the end of the season and that has seen the interest in him heat up.
The report further adds that Celtic are not the only outfit interest in a move with Norwich City and RB Leipzig also interested. It’s no surprise, however, especially given just how talented Nick Powell is. The former Manchester United man was once considered to be to one of the brightest prospects at Old Trafford.
However, it all came to nothing, with Powell flaming out at the club before eventually departing. For Celtic, it’s that talent that they need next season among a few others things, which includes a brand new manager. However, one player that the Hoops do need to add is a more attacking number 10.
They do have the likes of Tom Rogic, Callum McGregor and Ryan Christie at their disposal but only Christie has impressed. The 24-year-old has contributed to 15 goals this season despite only playing a bit part role for the club.
That could change in the near future and the former Aberdeen man’s struggle to maintain consistency throughout the season will hurt Celtic. It hasn’t done too much harm this season, with a few other players walking in and doing their part for the team.
That’s exactly why the Hoops need someone like Nick Powell, because he is a game-changer. A very creative and lethal player in the final third, the 25-year-old has the ability to change a game on its head, even on his bad days.
Moreover, he has the work ethic and the mentality to survive in the physically dominant Scottish Premiership. Celtic need reinforcements next season especially if they are to continue dominating the Premiership in the near future.
However, the fact that Norwich City, Borussia Monchengladbach, Leeds United and RB Leipzig are in the race does complicate things. This is a move that would only help Celtic to move further away in the league.

Nick Powell is a talented star and one that needs a new start, possibly a new challenge to his footballing career. That is something Celtic can provide him with and any move would only do the club a lot of good.
Combined with the fact that he will be a free agent in the summer, this makes it a great deal for the Hoops and allows them to splurge elsewhere.
