Why Ryan Christie signing a new Celtic contract is good news for both parties

According to a report in BBC, Ryan Christie has signed a new three-year contract with Celtic which will keep him at the club until 2021. The 22-year-old now believes that he can be a mainstay in the team under the management of Brendan Rodgers.

Christie joined the Hoops in 2015 from Caledonian Thistle, but he was sent back on loan to his hometown club and a two-year spell at Aberdeen followed. He is back at the Parkhead now and looks a much better player than what he was when he first arrived.

Here’s why the midfielder signing a new contract with the Scottish champions is good news for both parties:

Christie could be a mainstay in the midfield

Celtic, after making an underwhelming start to the season, have gained momentum and are now on top of the league table. They are there on goal difference but with a game in hand, and it shouldn’t be a surprise if they win the title for one more time.

Ryan Christie got back from various loan spells and has impressed everyone with his performances. The 22-year-old is now a regular starter in the midfield, either in a 4-5-1 or a 4-2-3-1 formation. The Scot can play as a wide midfielder, or as an attacking midfielder if required, providing the gaffer with several options.

He has netted two goals in eight league appearances (four from the bench). Furthermore, the quality of the player is at an enhanced level, which is helping the team to grow and get the results needed.

Christie’s displays this season also means that Rodgers has more options to choose his midfield from. This will help the manager to rotate the playing eleven without even compromising on the quality, a luxury that many managers do not have at all.

With Europa League football around, the Hoops would do well to have more players who are ready to do a job for the team whenever required. Having impressed after breaking into the first-team, Christie should be aiming to cement his place rather than go back to playing games sporadically.
