Why should Bristol City keep Tomas Kalas on a permanent basis

According to Bristol Post, Bristol City defender Tomas Kalas, who is on loan from Chelsea, has indicated that he would be looking to end his permanent tie-up with the Blues. The 25-year-old is with the Robins this season, his seventh different loan move since signing for the Blues in 2010.

Kalas featured only four times during his time in London, in 2013/14 under the management of Jose Mourinho. Since then, he has appeared for Sigma Olomouc, Vitesse, FC Koln, FC Koln II, Middlesbrough, Fulham and now Bristol City.

The Czech centre-back has been doing really well for the Robins this year, and looks settled at the back. So far, it is clear that Chelsea didn’t need the services of the 25-year-old, and whether that changes in the future remains to be seen.

However, here’s why Bristol should give more opportunities to the player and tie him on a permanent deal after his loan spell ends:

Kalas can a long-term solution

Tomas Kalas is now an experienced centre-back, having the know-how to be a long-term solution for the Robins. Having played on loan in several leagues across Europe, he certainly possesses the vital edge a defender needs in order to lead a back-line.

Tomas Kalas

In the seven appearances he has made in the Championship this season, the 25-year-old has an aerial duel success rate of 4, which is just fantastic and ideal for a centre-back. His game-reading is pretty solid as well, with a tackle and interception rate of 1 and 1.7. He only gets dribbled past 0.1 times per game, meaning the Czech is a fantastic one vs one defender.

Furthermore, Kalas is an accurate passer of the ball from the back. His 84.2% pass accuracy epitomises that attribute perfectly. Moreover, he has almost eight to nine years of top-flight football left in him.

For all the reasons and the facts stated above, Bristol City should make the centre-back’s deal a permanent one and simultaneously build a solid defence around him.

From Kalas’ point of view, it would make sense for him to stay at one club and keep performing to his best. It will not only help him be a settled player but would also attract interest from other big boys in the Premier League.

Getting moved on a regular basis makes it difficult for a player to harness much impact season by season.

Hence, it would be ideal if both parties agree on a permanent deal sooner than later.
