Why Brighton are doing the right thing by pursuing Reading defender Liam Moore

Brighton and Hove Albion enjoyed a successful return to the Premier League last season. The Seagulls finished 15th in the league under manager Chris Hughton. More than anything else, they were solid in terms of the defence, conceding just 54 goals.

Brighton found a star in new signing Pascal Gross who enjoyed a superb debut campaign at the Falmer stadium. The midfielder made a total of 38 appearances in the league, scoring 7 goals and providing 8 assists. Brighton were touted as one of the early relegation favourites but the club have exceeded all expectations.

Hughton should gear up to prepare for the new season. Once the World Cup is done, it’s back to business in the Premier League. And Brighton must make additional signings in order to build on their successes from last time out.

The Seagulls have reportedly been linked with a move for Reading defender Liam Moore. Brighton have already seen two offers get rejected by the club but the Seagulls must make a third and final offer. Moore currently has three years left on his contract at the Madejski Stadium.

The 25-year-old joined the club from Leicester in the summer of 2016 and was an integral part of the side that lost the Championship play-off final against Huddersfield Town that season. Moore managed to play every minute for Reading the last term as the club avoided relegation on the final day.

Moore generally operates as a central defender but is also capable of playing on the right side of the backline. The 25-year-old made 46 appearances in the Championship last season, scoring 3 goals and providing 1 assist in the process. That sounds like a much better deal that Lewis Dunk, who managed to score 4 own goals last season.

Moore is also calm and composed with the ball at his feet. He averaged a pass success rate of 82% in the league last season.

At the age of 25, Moore has shown immense ability and potential to go on and become one of the brightest defenders of his time. If Brighton are to pursue greater ambitions, Hughton must bolster his forces at the back and to that end, a move for Moore seems like a tantalizing prospect.
