Arsenal opinion: Emery should consider bringing back Ismael Bennacer

French news outlet Le10sport has revealed that Arsenal might be open to a move to bring former starlet Ismael Bennacer back to the club. The 21-year-old is currently at Empoli, where he has flourished and grown due to ample game time, with Olympique Lyon and Napoli showing an interest.

However, it’s his recent performances that have attracted the attention of the world. The 21-year-old Algerian has been in brilliant form over the last few months, playing a vital part in Empoli doing well.

When he first arrived at the Emirates, it was on the back of a chockfull of impressive performances for the former Tours midfielder. However, once he arrived at Arsenal, he did so alongside the likes of Jeff Reine-Adelaide, Mohamed Elneny and a few others.

Moreover, Jack Wilshere, Aaron Ramsey, Francis Coquelin, Santi Cazorla and Mikel Arteta stood between Bennacer and first-team football. But the fact that he was only 17 years old did play a part, and yet as time passed and players left, nothing changed.

That further affected the Algerian and he eventually left the club in the summer of 2017. Since then, things have changed for both parties, with Arsenal now looking at the tail end of Aaron Ramsey’s time at the club.

The 28-year-old’s contract is expiring at the end of the season and the Guardian has reported that he’s joining Juventus in the summer. This will leave the North London side hapless and with a transfer budget not worthy of replacing him effectively next summer (Mirror).

However, adding someone as talented and now as matured as Ismael Bennacer will help with the transition. Le10sport has already reported that his transfer fee is around €16million and that’s a decent amount. What really should seal the deal is Bennacer’s performance against Napoli.

He played the full 90 minutes and finished with a catalogue of rather impressive statistics. This includes 2 assists, 4 key passes and he completed 4 out of 5 tackles, 4 out of 5 long passes and a passing accuracy of 90%.

It shows the Algerian’s rise, where he would slot into Unai Emery’s team and why Ismael Bennacer should make a sensational comeback to Arsenal.

Conclusion

Arsenal need reinforcements in the midfield and that’s a fact. New players are needed all across the board and it has to be well within their transfer budget. That is going to be easier said than done, but their first target should be a midfielder. Someone like Ismael Bennacer would be a perfect option.
