Losing Hector Bellerin after the win over Chelsea as he tore his ACL, has arguably been Arsenal’s biggest blow this season. The Spaniard’s marauding runs up and down the right flank combined with his pace and defensive nuance, were key to Unai Emery’s plans this season.
After that, Emery has had to use a mix of Stephan Lichtsteiner, Ainsley Maitland-Niles and even Shkrodan Mustafi as potential right-backs.
While Lichtsteiner is 35 years old and has struggled to adapt to the Premier League’s pace and ferocity, Maitland-Niles is more of a central midfielder, and Mustafi is a centre-back.
These makeshifts options have affected the game for Arsenal at times, but it’s high time the club adds another star. One of the players Arsenal should consider is Pol Lirola.
The Sassuolo star has played in all but three games this season, contributing to four goals over the course of the Serie A season so far.
But that hasn’t been enough for I Neroverdi and they sit 11th in the Italian top-tier. However, despite all that, Lirola is someone who would flourish at Arsenal and under Unai Emery.
A speedy and agile right-back, the 21-year-old is mature beyond his age and is defensive solid.
That’s something Arsenal desperately need at the moment and at the same time, he is someone who can give Hector Bellerin completion for his spot. While the Spaniard is the North London’s side first choice right-back, he has no competition for his place in the team.
Adding Pol Lirola will do that for Arsenal and the 21-year-old can also contribute with a few goals over the course of the season. The Spainard has scored atleast a goal in his last three seasons and has added 8 assists since moving to Sassuolo.
While Lirola was expected to become a part of Juventus’ first-team, the Spaniard opted to move on.

The move proved to be a good one and for Arsenal, it’s one that they can use to their advantage. Trying to convince Pol Lirola to make the move to England should be a part of the club’s thinking.
