Arsenal

Arsenal should have hijacked Leicester City’s move for this seamless 23-year-old star and here’s why

Why Arsenal missed a trick by not signing Caglar Soyuncu

Arsenal displayed a lot of positives from their recent victory over Nottingham Forrest in the Carabao Cup. They had Rob Holding back in the heart of the defence, who was clearly missed. To make the return even sweeter, he scored a goal in the 5-0 romp.

It’s never a good sign when a team needs to wait on players who are nursing a long-term injury. It can take a while before they are ready to meet the demands of the brutal Premier League again.

It’s well known now that Arsenal did not prioritize the defensive areas in the summer transfer window. Amidst all that, Leicester City snapped up an old target for Arsenal by signing Turkish centre-back Cagalr Soyuncu, who has seamlessly replaced Harry Maguire.

The 23-year-old has comfortably adapted to Brendan Rodger’s style of play, which emphasizes on possession. He’s very tidy on the ball and has entertained Leicester fans with his ability to dribble out of pressure already.

He’s committed a few errors, however. For example, his foul on Marcus Rashford at Old Trafford left a sour taste but on the whole, he has been superb. Often well-positioned on most occasions, Soyuncu never look fazed despite having an enormous amount of responsibilities on his shoulders.

One of the issues that Arsenal have faced is that there isn’t anyone in that midfield – or in the backline – who shows real composure. Everything feels hurried and erratic but at Leicester, Soyuncu has provided a sense of calmness and composure.

Unai Emery

He doesn’t rush into challenges or gets out of position. He’s a little adventurous with his dribbling but he seems so assured and in control of it that it doesn’t look risky and this is exactly what Arsenal need right now.

He was very affordable and they should’ve gone for his signature when they had the chance. He might be the catalyst that helps Leicester break into the top-four while Arsenal ends up missing out.
