Why a January raid to sign this £27m-rated attacker could massively help Alvaro Morata and Chelsea

Should Chelsea Go All Out To Sign Riyad Mahrez From Chelsea?

If anybody at Chelsea doubted what Riyad Mahrez is capable of, the Algerian attacker put all their doubts to rest as he displayed some blistering form at Stamford Bridge in their recent match. The match may have ended in a goalless draw but the kind of performance the Foxes put up was truly commendable. However, one man, in particular, shone a little more brightly than the others and that was the £27m-rated Mahrez.

Interestingly, the Blues were keen on a move for him over the summer and are still understood to be pursuing a January move. After the way he played against them, there is no doubt that the club and its fans will view him with renewed light. He was in phenomenal form back in 2016 when Leicester lifted the Premier League trophy but last season, his power fizzled out a bit. This time though, he is here for redemption and that is quite evident from the way he has been playing.

Antonio Rudiger looked visibly tormented by the way Mahrez kept going out of his control to cause trouble up front. In addition to that, he kept attacking Chelsea on the left flank and was one of the liveliest players on the field, on a day when every single one of the Blues’ attackers was struggling to get things going. This has been a problem for the London-based club for quite some time now – and that is further illustrated by the fact that the draw against the Foxes marked their third consecutive goalless draw across competitions.

Dropping points at a time like this is not advisable for the club and while there is no doubt that they can bounce back, perhaps Chelsea should make a renewed effort to sign Mahrez. The entire situation could have been so much different had he stepped out in a Chelsea jersey. He boasts of exactly what the Blues are lacking right now and Conte must ensure they sign him this January at least. A player like him can prove to be valuable going forward.

Pedro and Willian often alternate between taking charge of the right wing but if Chelsea did sign Mahrez, he could take up that role with relative ease. If they manage to have Hazard on one side and Mahrez on the other, the Blues might just create a new trio for the world to marvel about.

Mahrez also possesses excellent creativity and vision and that is something Alvaro Morata can also benefit from. He has been struggling of late and to have a player like Mahrez to link up with, the former Real Madrid star could work wonders. Hence, Chelsea must definitely go all out to sign the lethal Algerian winger this month. At his best, he is unstoppable and the club could use a player like him at a time like this.
