Celtic are reportedly running the rule over Serbian winger Srdjan Plavsic ahead of a possible £1.5million bid.  The young forward is in action for his country in Poland at the European Under-21 Championships and will play against Spain on Friday.

Plavsic is nicknamed the ‘Atomic Ant’ and has been linked with a host of other clubs in recent times as his reputation continues to grow. Plavsic is diminutive but certainly has talent and his agent fully expects him to move abroad after the under-21 tournament. Here are some more details about him.

History

Plavsic was born in Novi Dad, Serbia, and credits his former futsal-playing father for teaching him his skills. He spent time in the academy at Vojvodina in his hometown before being signed up by CSK Celarevo, now of the Serbian First League, in 2012.

7 goals and 31 appearances later, Plavsic was snapped up by Spartak Subotica where he made 28 appearances across all competitions, netting another couple of goals in the process. His progress was not overlooked and the then 19-year-old signed for Red Star Belgrade in 2015.

With his ascension up the Serbian club ladder, came a call-up to the national under-20 side, and then the under-21’s, and he has now played two games for the full national team. To date, Plavsic has played 73 times for Red Star and netted 10 goals from midfield and looks ready for another step up.

Style Of Play

In a typically modern way, Plavsic is a left-footed player who prefers to operate on the right-hand side, similar to Patrick Roberts. He can play anywhere across the front line if asked to and loves to take defenders on. His scoring record tells you that he’s not scared to have a go when there is a sight of goal and is the type of player who gets supporters off their seats.

It is not surprising to see the youngster receive all the attention as he is clearly destined for big things. He is technically sound and that is an important factor to consider as he is still young.

His Future

Given where he came from and considering that he played just 4 games for Serbia’s under-20’s and 5 for the under-21’s before being promoted to the full national side, Plavsic’s progression has been quick and that suggests his improvement will continue.

That is a key fact, as whoever does sign the 21-year-old will know that the player they get in the summer will be better again come winter. Celtic would do well to nab him while they can.
