Scout Report – Ryan Edmondson

Leeds United have completed the signing of 16-year-old sensation Ryan Edmondson as the club appears to be scouting for homegrown local talent. The young striker has joined the club from National League North outfit York for an undisclosed fee on a two-and-a-half year deal. Tipped to be worthy of a Premier League move in the future, Edmondson is understood to be one of the most exciting young strikers in England.

The road from here on will be a long one for the youngster but with Leeds set to build a new-age strike force, Edmondson will certainly have a lot of opportunities to shine through. With that being said, let’s take a look at the teenager’s profile.

History

Born in 2001, Edmondson grew up supporting Leeds. However, as fate would have it, the player joined York’s youth academy and progressed rapidly through the ranks to establish himself as a young prodigal striker. He appeared once for York’s first-team after making his senior debut as a substitute in a home win over Brackley.

With Leeds seemingly keen on building an arsenal of young, attacking talents, the club monitored his performances and managed to sign him up. Prior to the move, Edmondson also attracted interest from Middlesbrough, but he will undoubtedly be happy at the prospect of playing for the club he supported as a kid.

Playing Style

Standing at 6ft 4, Edmondson is a true-blue attacker. Despite being so tall, the young Englishman is extremely light and quick on his feet. He attacks aggressively and is quite adept at sneaking into the tiniest of spaces to create opportunities. Unlike most modern academy graduates, Edmondson is very old school in the sense that he never shies away from dribbling or making a mean tackle.

His lightning pace helps him blaze through even the toughest of opponents and the player has a very sharp reading of the game, which often translates to effective decision-making on the field. However, he needs to polish and refine his game further, especially when it comes to the technical side of it.

Edmondson’s Future

While there is no doubting that Edmondson is a very talented and promising young striker, he is likely to be a part of the youth team at Leeds initially. He has a long way to go and it is too early for the teenager to be a regular for the first-team already. A few years of gruelling training should see him head in the right direction with the Championship club.

As far as a move to the Premier League goes, Edmondson has received a huge opportunity to play for Leeds and if he continues to rise then the day is not far when top-flight teams come calling.
