Two Players Who Burnley Could Offload In January

Burnley are enjoying a fine start to the 2017/18 Premier League campaign. The Clarets, led by Sean Dyche, sit 7th in the league table after 11 rounds of fixtures and have been extremely impressive in the first third of the new term.

Wins against the likes of Chelsea and Everton and points away from home against heavy-hitters Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur have made everyone sit up and take notice of the team that was widely tipped to get relegated in the 2016/17 season.

Under Dyche, the squad has been performing exceedingly well, with all the players pulling their weight and making it count on the pitch. The likes of Nick Pope and James Tarkowski who got their opportunities due to injury to Tom Heaton and departure of Michael Keane respectively have been brilliant, while summer signing Chris Wood too has begun life at the Turf Moor well.  

While a number of players have been performing well for the team, there are a few who haven’t been able to break into the senior team on a regular basis and have been left short of opportunities, and there are a few who aren’t deserving of a spot in the team based on merit and performances. Keeping that in mind, here we take a look at two players who Burnley should look to loan out or sell in the January window.

Dan Agyei (Loan)

The young forward is currently out on loan with League One side Walsall FC but is scheduled to return back to the Clarets in January. However, judging by his development with regular playing time under his belt, Burnley should definitely consider letting him out for another six-month spell away from the Turf Moor.  

The 20-year old Agyei has appeared 11 times in all competitions for his temporary club and has netted 4 goals already, which shows his potential. An explosive forward, who can play through the middle or on the wings, Agyei possesses some serious pace and has shown in his short time at the top level that he has great promise. 

But given the attacking options at the Clarets’ disposal currently, it is unlikely that he would get much playing time at the senior level and may well be better served with another loan spell to build his experience.  

Fredrik Ulvestad (Sell)

Signed back in March 2015, as a free agent, one wouldn’t be blamed to ponder if Norwegian midfielder Fredrik Ulvestad is still on the books at the Turf Moor.  

The 25-year old, since joining the Clarets two years back, has just made 10 appearances, in which he has registered a single assist. Last season, the central midfielder was sent out on loan to Charlton Athletic and he hasn’t been involved in any capacity for Dyche’s team in the ongoing season. Given the number of midfielders ahead of him in the pecking order, it is extremely unlikely that he’d have a future at the club and getting rid of him in January could be the best thing for the club to do.
