Who is the former Manchester United youngster signing by Rangers on loan? Everything you need to know

Scout Report – Sean Goss

QPR midfielder Sean Goss has joined Rangers on loan until the end of the season. The player stressed it was a “no-brainer” to join what he sees as a massive club. The 22-year-old is looking forward to working with Graeme Murty and performing for Rangers’ “massive fan base” and becomes the new boss’ first signing since getting the job until the end of the season.

Although Goss sees the Scottish Premiership as a tough league, he wants to challenge himself and understands that a lot is expected of Rangers’ players.

Goss may yet be joined by the returning Michael O’Halloran and Andy Halliday in the Rangers midfield to add more competition to a team which showed real improvement when drawing at Celtic in the recent Old Firm derby, though one of his features is his versatility as he can also fill in at left-back.

Wherever he is asked to play, those in the know seem confident that Goss will acquit himself well and will not be out of place at such a big club. Here’s what we know about him so far:

History

Goss was actually born in Germany but having moved back home to the UK, he was snapped up by Exeter City where he began to learn his trade. After almost a decade in the Exeter youth system, Goss joined Manchester United, which shows to some extent what underlying talent the player has.

This time last year, Goss joined Queens Park Rangers on a three-and-a-half year contract but has managed only 6 first team appearances and is looking to get game time elsewhere.

Style Of Play

Goss is happy to move the ball forward and is comfortable on the ball in the middle of the park. However, he is better known as a solid, defensive-minded player who can compete in the midfield and also at left-back.

Goss has a classy left foot and in a league like the Scottish Premiership, he can use it to cut open defences from deeper midfield positions.

Goss’ Future

Going from Manchester United to QPR to the Scottish Premiership looks like a downward slope, however, his overall career progression is good, having come through the ranks at Exeter. He may really come into his own in this league on the longer term.

It’s easy to see Goss staying at Ibrox beyond the end of this season and forming a part of Graeme Murty’s squad rebuilding.
