Three Potential January Ins And Outs For Burnley

With the January window up and running, there is a considerable amount of pressure on all Premier League clubs to seek out new recruits while also looking to offload a player or two. Burnley will be no different as manager Sean Dyche will be intent on ensuring this transfer window goes smoothly. They still have a chance of finishing in the top six but for that to happen, this winter window will be a crucial time for the club.

The Clarets have got off to a good start and this is an exciting time for them. Most of their players have proven to be quite impressive and there is an overall sense of achievement at Turf Moor for their displays so far. However, injuries have proven to be a concern and there is a lack of depth at the club in a lot of areas. If they are to continue this momentum and actually fight to finish in the top six, they need more dimensions and that makes this January window all the more important. With that in mind, here are three potential ins and outs for Burnley this January.

Outs

Dean Marney

He will be out of contract this summer after having to spend a lot of time on the bench due to his second cruciate knee ligament injury. He picked this up in a matter of two years and considering the kind of progress Burnley have been making, they cannot afford to risk it by keeping a player who’s so prone to injuries. He is undoubtedly an experienced presence but at 33 years of age, there is very little he can do for the club from here on. Having made over 200 appearances for the club, perhaps it is time for the player to seek newer pastures this January.

Ins

Matt Ritchie

The Newcastle winger is understood to have attracted attention from Burnley. Dyche is expected to be lining up a January move for him and it will be interesting to see if the Magpies let him leave. He has not scored a goal yet but he has provided 5 assists and could maybe do better in a different setup. There is no doubting his quality and could prove to be an alternative to Robbie Brady, who is set to be sidelined for quite sometime after succumbing to an injury. Ritchie can deliver results from the wide areas and a player like him could provide a boost.

Danny Ings

Ings is quite talented and should be playing more often but his opportunities have been few at Liverpool. Hence, the player could look to return to his former club and work his magic. He was at his best during his time at Turf Moor and with the Clarets registering an interest in signing him, he might be tempted to make the move in January. Liverpool have quite a strong team right now and instead of making a futile attempt at cementing a regular spot in Klopp’s squad, Ings is better off joining Burnley.
