Who are Tottenham’s top-5 most expensive signings ever – find out

Tottenham are not known for splashing out huge amount to sign players like other Premier League clubs. They are known to spend wisely on players whom they can rely on to make a difference.

In fact, Spurs did not bring in players during the summer of 2017 and also in the January transfer window that followed. They decided to continue with the set of players they already had and it proved to be successful as they reached the Champions League finals.

Mauricio Pochettino

Let’s take a look at Tottenham’s top-5 most expensive signings ever and how they fared for the team.

Tanguy Ndombele

Spurs’ decision to sign Ndombele from Lyon for a fee of £55m plus £10m add-ons, made them break the club record for the most expensive signing.

After arriving at Tottenham, he has featured in 10 Premier League games and is yet to make a difference for them. He has scored two and assisted once so far. According to whoscored, he has an average of 82.8% successful passes. Defensively, he has just made an average of 0.7 interceptions per game.

Coming back from a hamstring injury, huge responsibilities would be bestowed upon him to lift the team’s spirits. The 22-year-old will have to prove his money’s worth at White Hart lane, sooner.

Davinson Sanchez

The Colombian established himself as one of the most promising centre-backs at Ajax. In the summer of 2017, Tottenham bought him for £40m, a club-record signing then.

The 23-year-old put in some solid performances for his former side and showed promises of establishing himself as one of the best centre backs.

Due to Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen’s presence in the team, Sanchez has mostly sat on the bench, coming on as a substitute in most of the matches.

Davinson Sanchez

In his 8 games so far in the league this campaign, Sanchez has an average of 3.1 clearances per game and his interceptions account to 1.1 per game. He has an average rating of 6.55, according to whoscored.

He could be seen as the man to lead their defence in the future after the Belgian duo’s time comes to an end.

Moussa Sissoko

According to the Telegraph, Sissoko’s transfer from Newcastle United to Tottenham was considered to be dramatic. They reached an agreement on the transfer deadline day of 2016 summer for £30m.

Mainly a central midfielder, he has played on the right side of the midfield too. Sissoko was instrumental in Tottenham’s run to the Champions League final last year.

Moussa Sissoko

In his three years at the club, he has played 141 league games. His experience would be a key factor if Spurs are to go into the top four of the table this season.

Despite being accustomed to playing in the midfield, Pochettino has deployed him at right-back in a lot of games.

Roberto Soldado

Former Real Madrid man Soldado moved from Valencia to Tottenham for a fee of £26m. He was with the club for 2 years. The striker played 52 times for Spurs and scored a mere 7 goals in the league.

With the development of Harry Kane in their ranks, the Spaniard was then sold to Villarreal in 2015, bringing an end to his unsuccessful time at North London.

Erik Lamela

Tottenham sealed the signing of Erik Lamela for a fee of £26m in 2013 from AS Roma. Since then, Lamela has been a prominent figure in Pochettino’s side, though he has suffered injuries regularly.

Lamela, along with Son and Eriksen, was excellent in the midfield last season. In 9 league games this season, he has scored twice and has 1 assist to his name.
