Man United would become a force to reckon with if they sign this 195-goal veteran for free

Why Man United signing Cavani would be an absolute steal

Paris Saint-Germain star duo Thiago Silva and Edinson Cavani could leave the club for free once their contracts expire at the end of this season, according to ESPN. Considering this situation, Manchester United must once again revive their interest in Edinson Cavani.

Cavani, who joined PSG for a fee of £55m in 2013 from Napoli is a veteran of a whopping 195 goals from 287 appearances for the Ligue 1 winners.

The Uruguayan striker was the French league top-scorer twice – first in the 2016-17 season (35), and second in the 2017-18 season (28). The five-time French champion, though, has fallen down the pecking order under current boss Thomas Tuchel after a series of injuries this season.

Also, the emergence of new summer signing Mauro Icardi from Inter Milan could witness the veteran being side-lined to the benches in what seems to be his final year in Paris.

Meanwhile, manager Ole Gunnar Solksjaer and United need somebody to propel them from a series of unconvincing displays at the beginning of the season.

After failing to land in a striker by letting Romelu Lukaku move to Inter Milan in the summer, United have clearly lacked a clinical finisher who could win them games.

Solskjaer, who wants to win trophies with youngsters should maybe reassess his ideology after his side’s poor performance in the league.

A majorly dominant force during Sir Alex Ferguson’s era, United have fallen down the order in recent years since his departure and sit at 7th place as of now.

A standout performer for club and country since his initial footballing days, Cavani is also a Copa America winner with Uruguay in 2011.

The tall and physically strong South American has been their major threat in the attack alongside Luis Suarez and is a veteran of three World Cups. (2011, 2014 1nd 2018).

Though no more in his prime, the Uruguayan is still a clinical finisher as it is evident from his displays last year.

He scored 20 goals for the Parisians from 25 games last season, a figure comparatively small when compared to his exploits in the years before but still a decent figure for someone playing at his age.

Without a doubt, United should swoop in for the veteran striker when he walks away from PSG for free next summer.

Somebody with so much experience and consistency at the highest level, Cavani is sure not to disappoint if such a deal becomes a reality. United could also look back to the time when they signed Zlatan Ibrahimovic during Jose Mourinho’s tenure.

The Swede, who many thought had reached the end of his career, went on to score 22 goals from 36 appearances, shutting down his critics.

Zlatan’s Man United tenure is a testimony to the fact that the best will always stay the best. With Cavani being one of the finest finishers in the planet, United would have a short-term solution to their attacking woes.
