Manchester United 2 – 1 Brighton: Match Report + Twitter Reactions

Manchester United continue their honeymoon start to life under caretaker manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer by beating Brighton 2-1 at Old Trafford. They stay in sixth position but the gap is closed down to three points with fourth-placed Chelsea.

Solskjaer becomes the first United manager to win his first six league games in charge. Paul Pogba and Marcus Rashford were on target for the Red Devils. Pascal Gross did pull one back for the Seagulls but it wasn’t enough.

The home side started the game brightly and put the visitors under immense pressure. Just beyond the half-way point of the first half, a Nemanja Matic cross-field ball found Pogba, whose first touch took him past Gaetan Bong and the defender clumsily fouled him in the box.

The Frenchman took the responsibility from the spot kick and scored with aplomb. United doubled their lead three minutes before the break, when Rashford wriggled past Gross to score a fantastic goal from a tight angle. His fifth under Solskjaer.

Brighton came back better after the break. With 18 minutes to go, Davy Propper delivered a peach of a cross from outside of his boot to find Gross in the box. The latter then did well to get the ball in control and slot it past David de Gea.

The hosts were a bit off radar in the last 20 minutes, and in the end, they had to contain Chris Hughton’s men from scoring the equaliser.

Here’s how the Manchester United reacted on twitter after a seventh consecutive win under the new boss:
