Warming Up For Manchester United vs Chelsea
One of the biggest games of the season is set to take place just a couple of days after the Boxing Day fixtures. Manchester United – who lost to Stoke City – face Chelsea at Old Trafford. Both teams are under immense pressure with Manchester United’s manager Louis van Gaal fielding questions about his future at the club after four consecutive defeats while Chelsea are under the management of Guus Hiddink until the end of the season after the sacking of Jose Mourinho.
Chelsea are trying to get their season back on track and had to be content with a tough 2-2 draw at home against Watford in their last game. Both teams have struggled to find form and with United not playing any great football, it must come as a worry to fans that they could miss out on the top four.
Normally any big game between the sides would feature a lot of players on top form but that hasn’t happened all that much this season. Here is a combined XI of players from the Chelsea and Manchester United teams based on their performances thus far and yes, it was a hard selection to make, really hard.
David de Gea
The best goalkeeper in the league but he has been having a torrid time in keeping clean sheets now due to the defending from his teammates.
Branislav Ivanovic
The Chelsea right-back has become better as the season has progressed and deserves to be in the team simply because no other right-back from the two teams has had a better season.
Chris Smalling
Manchester United must be extremely happy with his performances this season as he has become one of the best defenders in the league and easily makes it into the combined XI.
Daley Blind
Blind might not be the most comfortable in central defence, but he has gotten better as the season has progressed and certainly gets to be part of this team.
Luke Shaw
The English defender was probably the one Manchester United player who was playing to their potential, but that horror injury in the Champions League cut his season short, but he still makes it into the team.

Nemanja Matic
The Chelsea midfielder didn’t have the best start to this season but has slowly gotten his form back and makes it into this team.
Morgan Schneiderlin
Morgan has certainly looked a good player in United colours and would be a great partner in midfield for Matic.
Ander Herrera
It is a mystery as to why the Spaniard does not start more games for United. Herrera is the ticker in midfield and should be part of this team.
Juan Mata
Juan Mata might be worrying if Jose Mourinho does make a return to the Premier League and takes up the post at Manchester United, but the Spaniard has been one of the better players for United this season and makes it into the team.
Willian
The Brazilian has been the only player who has done well at Chelsea regularly and is the top scorer between the two teams along with Anthony Martial with seven goals.
Anthony Martial
Anthony Martial might have started the season brightly, but that has gone down significantly, but he is the most dangerous forward between the two teams.
