Two Attackers Who Could Be A Massive Upgrade To Derby County’s Starting XI Including This Burnley Attacker

Two Attackers Who Would Massively Improve Derby County

Another season of disappointment has gone by with Derby County again failing to gain a promotion place. Gary Rowett gets a full pre-season and a full transfer window to mould his own side though and a lot will be expected of the Rams next season.

They seem to have some enviable defenders on their books. However, an overreliance on Tom Ince for goals from out wide was a major letdown. Matej Vydra and Ikechi Anya did not produce the goods and in terms of a no.9, Darren Bent’s 10 goals and David Nugent’s 6 simply won’t do.

Who could Derby add to their attacking line to bring it up to standard? Here we look at two major options:

George Boyd

The left-footed Scottish winger is comfortable on the right side of the attack and in this sense would be a like-for-like replacement for Tom Ince.

Boyd provided 2 goals and an assist for Burnley last term but in the Championship, his output would be much higher, meaning that he could fill the void left by Ince quite well, while also not being responsible for the reinvestment of the cash, which could go on other signings.

Boyd has a very good Championship and Premier League pedigree and, while arguably not being a ‘marquee signing’, would give Derby the sort of impetus they need.

Louis Moult

Gary Rowett is expected to go into the transfer market for a new hit man and signing Moult could prove to be a relatively inexpensive way to start remoulding Derby County’s squad and adding goals to it.

Moult is 25-years-old now and beginning to reach his peak as a striker. His profile is that of an improving player, having shown precious little output in the opening years of his career until finding his feet at Nuneaton Town in the National League in England back in 2013/14. He hit 18 goals that season which earned him a move to Wrexham where another 23 goals followed within a year.

His progress was rapid and from there he moved on to Motherwell, scoring 18 times in his debut season before going on to match that this term as well. The fact that he keeps gradually stepping up, while also finding the net shows his ascension up the ranks and so a crack at the English Championship looks appropriate for him now.
