Transfers: 3 Players Manchester United Should Sell This Summer

Share

Manchester United have wasted no time in showing their intent to get back to the winning ways as they have made some marquee signings and have roped in a big name manager in the form of Louis van Gaal. And all this have made the Red Devils faithful excited about their prospects for next season, as they are keenly following the impressive run of the Netherlands team led by their manager in the World Cup.

But it is not a one way run, where United can only be satisfied with the incoming players to strengthen their team. They also will have to think about getting rid of some of the deadwoods from their team, who have not contributed much over the years or who would not fit the style of van Gaal. United do have a lot of deadwoods in their team and it would take a substantial effort on the team management’s part to reduce the wage bill.

We name three players who should be shown the exit door.

Marouane Fellaini

Having made the big money move to Old Trafford last summer, the Belgian has endured a torrid time during David Moyes’ tenure. He had been a star performer at Everton and one of David Moyes’ most trusted men and was thus given the opportunity by Moyes to shine at a top club. But since then he has looked a pale shadow of his former self, partially due to his manager’s fault who played him at a position not suited best for him, but also due to his own dip in form. In the World Cup, he was regularly in the squad. But still could not have the impact that was expected of him and now it seems United have made their mind up to sell him. Newcastle United are interested in him and so are his former club Everton.

Ashley Young

The winger was bought from Aston Villa in 2011 and ever since he has failed to feature in the team on a regular basis. Last season he had just 20 appearances and 2 goals against his name. After United have decided to strengthen their midfield this term and have already bought the likes of Herrera, one cannot see a long term role for Young in the club anymore. He would be one of the first names to be nearing an exit if the club decide to sell a couple of players and as it looks Aston Villa would be in contention of his signature with new coaching staff Roy Keane speaking of him in good light.

Wilfried Zaha

The 21 year old player was much talked about when he joined Manchester United from Crystal Palace in the Fergie era and was sent back to loan, only to join the Red Devils at the start of the last season. But due to varied reasons, he has not found his footing in the Premier League as of yet, having only two appearances for United and then having an average stint at Cardiff City during his loan spell. Adding to this, the development of youngster Adnan Januzaj has further hampered his chances of making it to the United’s first XI, which will be further scrutinized by Louis van Gaal. This has prompted the United management to look at possible transfer options and again Newcastle United’s name features high on the list.
