A victory can make all the difference for a team as to how they approach the next one, Newcastle’s 2-0 win over Liverpool would have given them confidence but facing Tottenham, the team that cannot seem to be beaten, would not have been the ideal team to play at the moment.
Spurs, already qualified for the next round of the Europa League, will be looking to get back to winning ways after being held to a draw in their last game. They are just three points from a top four spot and a win at the Lane could well give them the momentum to push on.
Newcastle though need to keep the momentum going, after their 2-0 win over Liverpool. Georginio Wijnaldum starred for the Tyneside club and Steve McClaren will be expected a tough game against one of the high-flying clubs in the league.
With an array of talent available for both teams, we list out the three key battles from the game which could decide which side wins all three points.
The Belgian defender ha slowly worked his way to the top of the pecking order and his performances for Tottenham has seen him actually put in shifts better than international teammate Jan Vertonghen. Alderweireld’s signing was questioned a bit at the start of the season, but trust is in Pochettino’s judgement. The Belgian will have a tough time against the physical Papiss Demba Cisse, who will be hopefully of doing some damage to Tottenham.
2. Dele Alli vs. Moussa Sissoko
One of the stars of the season, Dele Alli’s stock keeps on rising for Tottenham and England. No one could have predicted him making this big an impact in such a short span of time. Dele Alli found the back of the net against West Brom last time around and could do the same this weekend as well but Moussa Sissoko would have a say in it. The Newcastle midfielder was one of the stars in their 2-0 win over Liverpool and he could be a thorn in Tottenham’s side if he gets his gears going.
3. Harry Kane vs. Fabricio Coloccini
Another battle which sees a striker take on a defender. Harry Kane refound his goal scoring boots for Tottenham and will be looking to bag a few more against a hapless Newcastle team; however playing against Coloccini isn’t the easiest task in the world. The Argentine has been around the block long enough and is crafty enough to deal with Kane’s pace and running. Coloccini is also a pretty tough defender to face and if he has Harry’s number during the game, it could end up being a long night for Spurs fans at the Lane.
