Tottenham opinion: Spurs in for James Maddison – Good move?

According to a report in Daily Mail (h/t Daily Mirror), Tottenham are ready to make a move for Leicester City playmaker James Maddison during this summer transfer window.

Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino is expected to get the required funds to strengthen the squad after the club’s finest achievement of reaching the Champions League (h/t Daily Mail), where they will face Premier League rivals Liverpool.

The Argentine is looking towards Maddison and thinking about making a move (h/t Daily Mail). The Englishman arrived at Leicester City last summer only from Norwich City for a fee around £24m. (h/t Leicester Mercury)

The 22-year-old managed to rack up seven goals and seven assists in his first season in the Premier League, which really attracted the interest of a number of big teams in the country. (h/t Daily Mail)

Here’s why Spurs would be right to make an offer for the playmaker:

Maddison can make a difference at Spurs

James Maddison is a fantastic player and great technician on the ball. He can play in various positions across the front line, but his favoured slot is the number 10 just behind the striker. It helps him to operate in between the lines and find pockets of space to create trouble for the opposition.

With the arrival of Brendan Rodgers as the Leicester manager, the 22-year-old has been playing as one of the attacking midfielders in a 4-1-4-1 formation, which has its own positives.

Coming back to Tottenham, they have done incredibly to stay in the Premier League’s top-four and reach the Champions League final without even signing a player for the last two transfer windows.

However, if they are to sustain that rate of success, then squad depth is a necessity ahead of next season. Hence, it would make sense if they make an offer for Maddison.

The 22-year-old’s playing attributes match with Christian Eriksen, meaning he would be given the freedom by Pochettino to play in pockets of space and create moments for the team.

Conclusion

All in all, we can understand why Spurs are interested in the 22-year-old. From the player’s point of view, working under a manager like Pochettino in an ever-developing project would be something special as well.
