According to the Daily Express, Tottenham Hotspur are looking to sign Fenerbahce’s Macedonian sensation, Eljif Elmas. The report states that Spurs scouted the 19-year-old three times last season and have made Fenerbahce aware of their interest.
Spurs fans did not have much to look forward to last summer until they moved into their new stadium and that was followed by a Champions League final, the first in the club’s history.
However, they did not make a signing in the past two transfer windows as they saved funds for their new stadium.
They also made a top-four finish but this achievement was dampened by the fact that they were in a title race with Manchester City and Liverpool at one point but couldn’t sustain it in the final stages of the seasons, taking a massive fall in the league table.
Super Lig outfit Fenerbahce have set a €20million price-tag on Elmas. He has three years remaining on his contract while Tottenham are likely to face competition from Napoli, Fiorentina, Inter, Lazio, Dortmund and Atletico Madrid.
The 19-year-old is a versatile midfielder, having broken through this season despite Fenerbahce having an appalling season domestically.
He’s most comfortable in the middle of the park, where he can stick to distributing the ball around and winning it back. His tall frame would be perfect for the Premier League and its physicality.
Any player who has so many big-name suitors must be a really talented player. Spurs desperately need some new faces to inspire them to new heights. The team that we all identify with this generation of Spurs is slowly ageing.
Jan Vertonghen, Toby Alderweirld, Hugo Lloris and Danny Rose are stalwarts in the game now. Harry Kane and Christian Eriksen are no longer potential stars; they are now two of the best players in the world in their positions.
They’re no longer a young team and need to add some much-needed youth into their team to freshen things up for the future and Elmas fits the bill perfectly.
Pochettino has a fantastic reputation for developing potential and should continue doing so. Daniel Levy must back him with this signing like Liverpool did with Jurgen Klopp a year before.

After coming so close to victory, Pochettino will want to make amends as quickly as possible and get his hands on that first trophy.
