Tottenham opinion – Spurs in for Marko Malenica – good move?

According to a report in Football.London, Tottenham Hotspur are interested in signing Osijek goalkeeper Marko Malenica in the summer transfer window.

This would be done if Hugo Lloris leaves the club and Paulo Gazzaniga becomes the number one. Hence, the aforementioned target would come in as a backup option (h/t Football London).

As a follow-up, a report in Daily Star says that the French World Cup winner, who still has a contract until 2022, is potentially leaving Spurs in the summer.

Hence, it makes sense that they are looking to add Malenica, who is priced around £1m.

Malenica has done well between the sticks

Marko Malenica has been a part of Osijek team since his youth years. He joined their academy in 2009 and played for several age groups until 2013.

He was then loaned out to Sibalia and Segesta Sisak for a year and six months respectively. The 25-year-old eventually returned with the Bijelo-Plavis in 2015 and started playing in the first-team.

The Croatia U19 international has played every league game this season and impressed. Keeping 9 clean sheets in 29 games, and only shipping in 30 goals is a decent return for any goalkeeper.

In terms of attributes, Malenica is an athletic stopper, whose height (1.93m) allows him to dive and cover most portion of the goal. His decision-making in the box from set-pieces and crosses is decent as well.

All in all, the 25-year-old has grown in stature over the last few years and improved as a goalkeeper. He would most certainly be a nice addition to the Tottenham squad.
