Two Players Sheffield United Should Sign To Maintain Their Promotion Push

Sheffield United have been excellent this season, in fact very entertaining at times and have once again shown they have a knack for signing the right type of players to help them to keep improving.

When the January transfer window opens, they would be foolish to stand still even with such a settled squad, as Premier League football is what they suddenly find themselves scrapping for and cannot afford to let the opportunity pass them by.

Just a couple of cute additions to the squad could well be enough to get themselves into the playoffs and from there on, anything can happen. They may yet remain contenders for a top-two finish but only if they bolster their squad.

So here are two potential incomings who could help the Bramall Lane cause:

Liam Moore (Reading)

Celtic have been rumoured to be wanting to sign Moore for some time now, and you may forgive the Reading man for looking for new pastures, given the way his side have played after the expectation which had built over the summer.

The Blades play three at the back and arguably need more cover in those areas than most other clubs. Moore is just the type of player who can add the sort of quality and experience needed to keep Sheffield moving forward.

Moore would definitely represent a good piece of business if they can get it done, though I’m sure Reading will not want to him let go on the cheap.

Charlie Wyke (Bradford City)

The former Carlisle United man is climbing the football ladder nicely since his days at Kettering and Hartlepool United. Wyke now finds himself with 15 goals in 37 League One games since joining Bradford a year ago from the Cumbrian side.

A fine finisher, the 24-year-old Wyke would provide a younger challenge to the old guard of Leon Clarke and Billy Sharp, who remain in excellent form this season.

Good options are always needed from the bench, especially in the second half of the season; so it is easy to envisage Clarke and Sharp carrying on but someone like Wyke posing a major threat in this division late on in games.

There’s no telling yet as to how far Wyke will go in the game eventually, but for now, it’s fair to say that the Championship wouldn’t be too much of a reach for him and personally, I’d like to see him be given a chance. Sheffield United are just the type of club to give a third-tier player a chance, and it’s just the right place for Wyke to be.
