Sex scandals in football, unfortunately, are never too uncommon. It is not very surprising either because these players are in the prime of their life, earns an incredible amount of money and fame. Often, they are too young and inexperienced to keep their feet on the ground.

5. Dwight Yorke

Back in 1998, Manchester United’s Dwight Yorke and Aston Villa’s Mark Bosnich rigged up a hidden camera in a house to tape themselves having fun with four women. When the video came out into the public domain, it caused a countrywide uproar and ridicule.

Apart from a number of compromising positions, the video showed the two footballers dressed up in women’s clothes. Bosnich was even filmed wearing a skirt and being spanked. The tape would have never seen the light of day had Yorke destroyed it. Instead, he threw it in the trash and the tape was subsequently discovered by a reporter. The rest, as they say, is history.

4. John Terry

John Terry got involved in a scandal back in 2009. The English defender allegedly had a four-month affair with Vanessa Perroncel, the ex-girlfriend of Chelsea teammate Wayne Bridge. What added the spice in the story was that Terry had been married since 2007 and the affair began soon after Bridge had parted ways with Vanessa.

In 2010, Terry pressed the British High Court for super-injunction in a bid to block all mentions of the episode in the press. However, the injunction was lifted after a while and the British press wrote about the episode in great detail. Vanessa, however, maintained that the affair had never happened. This, though, did not stop the development of a rift between Bridge and Terry, with the former retiring from International football and the latter stripped of his captaincy.

3. Ashley Cole

Ashley Cole was way ahead of his time. He had allegedly mastered the art of sending provocative pictures of himself to others a long time back. Although Cole was in a well-publicised marriage with celebrity Cheryl Tweedy from 2006 to 2010, there were numerous allegations of infidelity on part of the English footballer.

Afer the separation in 2010, there were numerous reports in the press accounting Cole for adultery and lewd behaviour. It was reported that at least two women, one being Sonia Wild, was the recipient of x-rated pictures and lewd texts. Five different women have claimed that they had affairs with the Chelsea man during his marriage.

2. Ryan Giggs

In 2011, accusations of adultery against Ryan Giggs surfaced. The press were banned by the British High Curt to publish Giggs’ name with respect to an alleged affair with model Imogen Thomas. However, hours later the anonymity was blown when a member of the parliament mentioned that Giggs had sought the injunction.

While the alleged affair and the poorly attempted cover-up was damaging, it was soon eclipsed by fresh allegations. Giggs was accused of having an eight-year long affair with Natasha, his brother’s wife. It was also claimed that Giggs had paid Natasha to have an abortion. The entire episode has left an indelible mark on the player’s image as an icon in the Great Britain.

1. Wayne Rooney

Wayne Rooney has had his brush with scandals from a very young age. Even before his big move to Manchester United, he admitted to frequenting massage parlours. One of his favourite companions at the parlour was a 48-year-old woman who had a grandchild. The press seized upon the story and it was even reported that he paid £45 for his visits.

Flash forward a few years, and Rooney was again caught in the middle of a scandal. Now, married to his childhood sweetheart Coleen with a child on the way, the English captain was alleged of a sexual encounter involving two women. It was reported that Rooney paid $1,500 for the encounter. Furthermore, there were allegations that Rooney had met with one of the prostitutes on more than one occasion over a two month period.
