Four Worst Injuries In The Modern Era – Arsenal’s Eduardo, Cisse and others

Share

Injuries are common when it comes to football but sometimes there are injuries that redefine the career of a player and there are only few players that have gone through a broken leg and still able to play some of the best football.

We will look at 4 such players,

Eduardo Da Silva

If you are an Arsenal fan, then you will never forget what happened to Eduardo, once touted to be the best finisher in the premier league is now playing his trade in Ukrainian club Shakhtar Donetsk due to one horrifying evening against Birmingham City. Eduardo suffered a broken left fibula and an open dislocation of his left ankle following  a tackle by Martin Taylor. The player was immediately taken to the near by Selly Oak Hospital, where he underwent surgery and took nearly a year to return to action. However the player was never at his best and couldn’t recreate any sort of magic that he had previously.

Kieron Dyer

Not a well known player to most of the Soccer fans but Kieron Dyer is an English player who currently plays for Queens Park Rangers as an attacking midfielder. During his time in West Ham he suffered one of the worst injuries in the modern era. The player suffered a broken right leg when p[laying against Bristol Rovers on August 29th, 2007.

Francesco Totti

AS Roma legend Francesco Totti is known as an hard man when it comes to Soccer. On February 19th, 2006, while playing in the Italian Championship against Empoli F.C suffered a serious leg injury, fracturing his left fibula. But even after the injury he showed the same class as before.

Djibril Cisse

Cisse is truly a injury jinxed player. The French man suffered a broken leg, not once but twice and is still able to play – a true inspiration for other injury prone players. On 30 October 2004 Cisse suffered a horrendous injury after getting his boot stuck in the grass, breaking his tibia and fibula in the process and took nearly 14 months to return to action. Then in 2006 came yet another horrifying day, this time playing for France in a friendly against St Etienne after which he was forced to withdraw from 2006 world cup.

The beautiful game should be played with good spirit and we hope not to see any of these career threatening tackles again.
