Fortuna Dusseldorf have been the come back kings in Germany over the past few years. The club holds a record in German Football History as they are the only side who were relegated from the Bundesliga down to a 4th level league (from 1997 to 2002) and promoted back to the Bundesliga afterwards (from 2004 to 2012).
Dusseldorf has a made a remarkable start to their campaign losing just one game out the seven they have played. Currently sitting at the seventh spot in the table, Dusseldorf welcome League leaders Bayern Munich to home on Saturday. This will be their biggest test of the season so far in their first season back at the top flight and the minnows are ready to face the battle.
Speaking about the game, Fortuna Dusseldorf’s midfielder Johannes van den Bergh claimed that his side will not have any inferiority complex when they play Bayern this weekend.
“Bayern Munich have played seven games successfully,” van den Bergh said. But we go into this game with the goal of getting the points. It will be a tough game but there is no game which is already lost in advance.”
Though Fortuna Dusseldorf have only lost one game, they have managed to win only two games and played out 4 games without a result. Bayern on the other hand have won all the seven of their Bundesliga games and will be starting the match as clear favourites. And the return of Netherlands winger Arjen Robben from injury will only add trouble to Dusseldorf.
But striker Ken Ilso claims that his side will not be overwhelmed by the occasion and will to the challenge in front of them. Dusseldorf have not lost a game in their home this season and Ken is confident that they will be the first team to beat Bayern Munich this season.
“We have to respect Bayern Munich but of course we can’t respect them too much, Islo said. Everyone knows how strong they are. It is difficult for any team to play here at Esprit Arena, So hopefully it will be the same for Bayern.”
