Top 3 reported Leeds United targets Christiansen should avoid signing

Leeds have had a busy transfer window so far and it may get even more hectic yet. A number of players have been linked with the Whites and not all signings usually turn out to be good. There are always some Banana skins that need to be skipped and here are three reported targets they may do very well to avoid:

Jack Colback (Newcastle United)

Colback was told in August that he was free to leave Newcastle United and seek first-team football elsewhere. He refused to move however and dug his heels in, kept on taking his huge wages and also refused flat out to play in a practice match, after having been told to train with the juniors.

Whatever you may think of Rafael Benitez, he is a gentleman manager and a professional. So I find it very, very hard to believe any problem behind the scenes is the fault of his. Colback has caused problems at Newcastle of late and may well do the same again once his contract is agreed – I would avoid signing him if possible.

Chris Martin (Derby County)

Leeds are still looking for a striker to take the burden off Pierre-Michel Lasogga with Martin being a tentative target for some time now. The Derby man has had a more settled run in the Rams team this year, playing 23 times but only scoring once. Even when considering he averages just 36 minutes per appearance, it’s still well over 800 minutes of pitch time for a single solitary league goal.

Leeds need something more concrete than that and despite Martin’s obvious qualities in terms of holding the ball up, I would urge caution when attempting to sign him up.

Danny Ings (Liverpool)

Since hitting 20 goals in 40 Championship matches for Burnley in their promotion campaign of 2013/14, things have hardly gone to plan for Ings, who has suffered from a number of injuries.

Things have gone downhill since his transfer to Liverpool, with the once-capped England international having played only 8 Premier League games for the Reds and 14 in total during a two-year stay at Anfield. In fact, due first to a cruciate ligament rupture and then to a knee operation, Ings has missed a possible 90 Liverpool matches.

Given his injury record, there’s no way anyone could confidently say Danny Ings would be the right option for Leeds in January. True, the club could take him on loan and ask Liverpool to pay some or all of his wages, but he remains a risk as he is likely to be the only striker they sign once he is on board.
