Two Players Burnley Must Avoid Signing At All Costs This January

When Burnley subjected defending champions Chelsea to a shock opening day defeat, many brushed it off as mere luck. However, as days progressed, so did Burnley’s credibility and the club soon found themselves in the top six.

They maintained that spot for quite some time and enjoyed a splendid start to the Premier League under Sean Dyche’s watchful eyes. A lot of their players were thrust into the limelight and they did quite well in terms of playing against most of their counterparts.

In fact, the way they have played so far is quite commendable and they continue to be in 7th place in the league table. The Clarets are 5 points behind 6th-placed Arsenal and if they manage to do better in the coming days, Burnley might still have a chance of breaking into the top six.

However, they have faced problems in certain areas of late and that has hampered their overall growth. Silly errors have cost them points in a recent couple of games but they have time to bounce back.

Also, with the ongoing January window, Dyche will be aware of the fact that he needs to bring in reinforcements. They have already managed to secure a loan move for Georges-Kevin N’Koudou from Tottenham Hotspur but they have also been linked to a host of other players. While most of them could prove to be solid additions, there are a few that Burnley could probably do without. Let’s take a look at two players Dyche must avoid signing this January.

Solly March – Brighton & Hove Albion

Dyche is understandably keen on strengthening his attack and March does seem like a promising target. However, at 23 years of age, he lacks experience and the Clarets have already signed N’Koudou, who more or less falls into the same pool.

In 22 Premier League appearances, March has managed to score just one goal and a solitary assist. There is no denying that he can be moulded and developed to perform better but at a time like this, Burnley cannot afford to have two relatively inexperienced wingers when they are in dire need of proven quality players.

Joe Worrall – Nottingham Forest

Make no mistake: Worrall has produced some encouraging displays for the Championship side and it is quite clear that he boasts of tremendous potential. At 21 years of age, he has put in some mature and reassuring displays as a centre-back but Burnley do not need him right now.

James Tarkowski and Ben Mee have been in splendid form for the club this season. Tarkowski even signed a new deal recently and he partners exceptionally well with Mee. They have been rock-solid at the back for Burnley and perhaps instead of buying defenders, Dyche must focus on bringing in more attackers.
