Best Midfield + Striker Partnerships In Premier League

Batman & Robin, Troy Barnes & Abed Nadir, Ren & Stimpy, the list goes on but these are just some pairs which are well known all around the world and have provided a lot of fun and entertainment (with a few broken bones, here is looking at you Mr. Wayne) over the years. The Premier League also has its own dynamic duos and we look at the best pairs of midfielders and strikers to have performed well this season.

1. Sergio Aguero and Yaya Toure

Aguero

Manchester City might not have had the best of seasons, but they do have the best partnership in terms of a midfielder + striker team. Sergio Aguero leads the goal scoring charts, although tied with Harry Kane and Diego Costa with 19 goals in another injury hit season.

While Yaya ‘Cake’ Toure has not hit the lofty heights of last season but he still has put in a decent shit and has scored 8 goals for the City team. Toure and Aguero could have scored more goals had the pair played more games over the season and City could need the pair to fire some more to ensure they get into the Champions League next season.

2. Olivier Giroud and Santi Cazorla

Giroud

While Alexis Sanchez has been firing on all cylinders, it is his other strike partner Olivier Giroud who has scored the same number of goals as Sanchez with 14 this season. Giroud has been in scintillating form in the second half of the season and has been ably helped by the Chileans exploits.

Santi Cazorla is having a fine season as well and he has scored 7 goals to help the Gunners push up to 2nd in the Premier League standings and they still have a chance of winning the FA Cup as they are in the semi-finals. Santi deserves credit especially since he has been playing in various roles for the club and has probably had his best season for Arsenal.

3. Diego Costa and Oscar

Oscar Chelsea

While we could have included Eden Hazard in the list, the Belgian had to be axed from the list because he is not a midfield player. Diego Costa has had a brilliant first season in the Premier League and is tied on top of the goal scoring charts with Harry Kane and Sergio Aguero with 19 goals. He has been helped a lot by Hazard’s exploits this season, but another midfielder, attacking in the complete sense has been just as important to the Chelsea team.

Oscar has scored 6 goals this season and while in the second half he has not been as important to the club, he still does have a role to play at the club and could come in handy in their quest to reclaim the Premier League title from Manchester City.
