Manchester City opinion: Should Pep Guardiola sign Lucien Agoume?

According to a report from the Daily Star, Premier League champions Manchester City are set to beat Italian giants Inter Milan for the signing of French wonderkid Lucien Agoume in the summer.

The 17-year-old, dubbed as the new Paul Pogba, has attracted interest from a whole host of top clubs including Barcelona, Paris Saint-Germain and RB Leipzig but the report reveals that City and Inter are the favourites to land the Frenchman.

Pep Guardiola’s side can snap up Agoume for as little as £4.43million this summer transfer window but Inter are said to be deep in talks to sign the young midfielder.

However, Manchester City will sweeten the deal by offering a young player of their own on a loan deal to Sochaux to lure them into selling Agoume.

Manchester City would be a phenomenal destination for Agoume to continue his development and he will not find a better manager than Pep Guardiola to help him fulfil his humungous potential in the coming years.

The former Barcelona and Bayern Munich boss has already proven that he is willing to give opportunities to young players in the first team, as evident with Phil Foden and Oleksandr Zinchenko. Agoume isn’t quite as ready as the two City youngsters but the process will certainly be accelerated under Guardiola.

Agoume is rightly dubbed as the new Paul Pogba and his performances on the pitch will remind you of the French World Cup winner. The 17-year-old is incredibly athletic, just like Pogba, and can play anywhere across central midfield.

The teenager has mainly been used as a defensive midfielder this season but he has shown his willingness to get involved in the attack on a consistent basis.

This is something Guardiola loves in his deep-lying midfielders as evident with the likes of Fernandinho and Sergio Busquets over the years.

Agoume has a brilliant eye for a pass from the deeper role and his execution has been incredibly impressive this season. His positional awareness off the ball has been superb considering his age and he will only get better in a better team and under a better manager.

Conclusion

Manchester City’s squad boats of the best players in the Premier League but their youth setup has to be perfect to carry on the good work of their current stars.

The addition Lucien Agoume would be a fine step in achieving a brilliant youth setup and the Frenchman, with a little guidance, would break into the first-team soon.
