The new Javier Hernandez? Man United signing this 20-year-old starlet would be a terrific investment

Why Jose Juan Macias would be a good signing for Manchester United

According to a report from Express, Manchester United are keeping tabs on Guadalajara’s Mexican starlet Jose Juan Macias, who has been dubbed as the new Javier Hernandez.

Manchester United are among a number of clubs eyeing the 20-year-old striker, who is currently turning heads across Europe with his impressive performances. Jose Juan Macias joined Leon on a year-long loan from Guadalajara in December 2018 and has since impressed in the Liga MX.

He has bagged six goals and two assists in 11 appearances so far in the 2019/20 campaign. The young forward scored on his debut for Mexico and led Gerardo Martino’s side to a 2-0 victory over Trinidad and Tobago earlier this week.

Having already drawn comparisons with Javier Hernandez, Manchester United cannot afford to let Macias slip from their hands and they must make a move for him in January.

United are in desperate need of striking reinforcements given the summer departures of Romelu Lukaku and Alexis Sanchez, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer left relying on Anthony Martial, Marcus Rashford and Mason Greenwood for goals.

The Red Devils failed to register a single shot on target during Thursday night’s dour 0-0 draw with AZ Alkmaar in the Europa League that left Solskjaer with a lot to ponder.

Having sold Lukaku and let go of Sanchez on loan, there’s absolutely no depth left in the striking department at the club. Solskjaer has shown faith in young, hungrier players but that has done him and United very little favour.

In the rebuilding process that he has undertaken, the Norwegian should sign the players that fit the club’s profile and his style of play.

The three signings made in the summer have been United’s best players in an otherwise mediocre campaign so far for the Red Devils. Things need to change quickly if United are serious in their top-four ambitions and signing few players in January stands as a no-brainer.

Jose Juan Macias would be an exciting addition to the United side royally struggling for goals at the moment. The 20-year-old is a composed finisher in front of goal that certainly belies his age.

He has proven himself as a good goalscorer in Mexico, someone who can create something out of nothing with his direct running, energy and good finishing skills. He is lethal in and around the penalty box, trying to take a quick shot on goal at every opportunity.

The Mexican is in his formative years and has a lot to improve, and his direct, exciting style of play would mesh well with a team like United where the fans would appreciate a young player like him showcasing his talent in every game.

Verdict

Macias is a rough diamond that United must snap up in January before other clubs start circling. All in all, he could turn out to be a fantastic long-term investment.
