Match Report: PSG 7-1 Celtic

Scottish champions Celtic were humbled by a rampant Paris Saint-Germain side, as the French side beat Brendan Rodgers’ men 7-1 at the Parc des Princes, on Wednesday night, in the UEFA Champions League.

The Bhoys, whose exit from the competition has already been confirmed, are in the fight for a place in the Europa League and things were off to a dream start for them against PSG when French sensation Moussa Dembele fired them ahead just 56 seconds into the game.

However, that goal only served as a spark for the French heavyweights as world-record signing Neymar reinstated the stalemate between the two sides in the 9th minute, before making it 2-1 halfway through the first period.

Things got worse for the Hoops, as Neymar’s strike partners Edinson Cavani and Kylian Mbappe added two more goals in the 28th minute and 35th minute respectively, as the teams went into half-time with PSG leading 4-1.

Post the break, Les Parisiens took the foot off the pedal somewhat, but a late salvo saw them add three goals between the 75th and the 80th minute, to heap more misery on the visitors. Marco Verratti made it five with a coolly hit finish before Cavani got his brace with a brilliant volley via a deflection. Fine, Dani Alves scored the 7th goal with a stunning strike from 25 yards out.

Celtic have lost all four matches against Paris in European competitions, conceding 16 goals and scoring just one. However, Europa League still seems a strong possibility for the Scottish giants as they sit third in Group B, three points ahead of bottom feeders and their next opponents, Anderlecht.

Here’s how their fans reacted to the heavy defeat last night:
