Terrific Edouard, Average Rogic: The best and the worst-rated Celtic stars in 5-2 victory vs Hibernian

Celtic FC Player Ratings vs Hibernian: Here’s how the Hoops fared

Celtic moved one step closer to defending their League Cup crown after defeating Hibernian 5-2 on Saturday.

A Mohamed Elyounoussi double gave Neil Lennon’s side victory at Hampden. Two goals in four first-half minutes gave dominant Celtic the cushion they had sought right from the kick-off.

With the Hoops’ full-backs raiding down the flanks, were on the back foot for most of a first-half where the defending champions controlled the game.

Hibernian scored a consolation goal after Scott Brown scored a second-half brace to leave Celtic one step away from retaining the League Cup.

Celtic Player Ratings

Fraser Forster- 5/10

Could have done little about the goal Melker Hallberg netted for Hibernian and was let down by his defence when Florian Kamberi netted the second.

Jeremie Frimpong- 6/10

Another impressive performance from Frimpong, who was a constant threat down the right flank. Displayed great energy throughout the game.

Christopher Jullien- 8/10

Jullien was solid at the back and kept the Hibs forwards at bay for major parts of the game.

Kristoffer Ajer- 6/10

Some really good passing from the back and marauding runs with the ball. However, Ajer could have done better at Kamberi’s goal.

Boli Bolingoli-Mbombo- 4/10

Bolingoli-Mbombo was guilty for Hibs’ first goal, with the left-back teeing up Hallberg for his goal with a poor pass in the box. He was rightly substituted at half-time for Hayes.

Scott Brown- 7/10

Brown put in a skipper’s display, scoring a brace in the 5-2 riot of Hibernian.

Callum McGregor- 7/10

Scored a simply tap-in from Edouard’s pass in the first half. Other than the goal, McGregor kept things tidy alongside Brown in midfield.

James Forrest- 7/10

Created the opener with a sublime cross to Elyounoussi. Hit the post in the second-half before being taken off.

Tom Rogic- 5/10

Rogic started in the no.10 role but failed to create openings. Never really looked to threaten the Hibs backline.

Mohamed Elyounoussi- 9/10

Elyounoussi is starting to show his true colours in Scotland. Showed great composure to head home Forrest’ cross before being in the right position and at the right time to score his second. He was cruelly denied a hat-trick by the post.

Odsonne Edouard- 8/10

Edouard didn’t find himself on the score-sheet but contributed with two assists. Excellent link-up play from the Frenchman.

Jonny Hayes- 5/10

Replaced Bolingoli-Mbombo at left-back and did well.

Hatem Abd Elhamed- 4/10

Replaced Forrest when the score-line was 4-2.

Ryan Christie- 3/10

Came on with barely 11 minutes left in the game. Couldn’t make an impact, though.
