With the New Year coming in fine fashion for Leicester and Arsenal fans, it wouldn’t be a surprise for them to look back at 2015 with great aplomb. Leicester have been the team of 2015, especially this season while no team has taken more points in the league than Arsenal since the start of 2015.
Chelsea though have had a torrid time this season and there have been a few players who certainly have gone off the boil. Here is a list of the best Premier League XI from 2015. This includes the time frame from January 2015 to December 2015.
David de Gea
Simon Mignolet might have more clean sheets than David de Gea in 2015 but the Spaniard is the better goalkeeper and easily deserves to be in the best XI.
Nathaniel Clyne
While many would have suggested Branislav Ivanovic or Hector Bellerin to feature in this XI, it has been Clyne who has been the most consistent since 2015. He joined Liverpool from Southampton in the summer and has put in good performances for the Reds since the start of the season.
Laurent Koscielny
Koscielny is one of the best central defenders in the league and Arsenal look poor without him in the back. He certainly has been one of the best players in 2015 and deserves to lead in the centre of defence.
Jan Vertonghen
The Belgian has been a revelation, like most of Tottenham under Mauricio Pochettino and his performances are just getting better as this season progresses. He would make a great partnership with Koscielny in the middle of defence.
Cesar Azpilicueta
The best left-back in the league, Cesar might have lost his place to Ryan Bertrand but his performances have been more consistent and hence just sneaks ahead of the English defender in this XI.
Alexis Sanchez
Alexis Sanchez was Arsenal’s main man last season and even though it has been Ozil who has been doing the damage for the Gunners this season, Sanchez has still had a brilliant 2015 to stay in the team.
Francis Coquelin
Arsenal have struggled to replace an injured Coquelin and his rise to fame started in 2015 and has continued ever since. Probably one of the best defensive midfielders in the league and should be in the team of 2015.
Santi Cazorla
Coquelin is just one-half of the midfield magic and Cazorla should also be in the team thanks to his brilliant performances in the centre of the park for Arsenal.
Riyad Mahrez
The Algerian is now a household name due to his great performances for Leicester and he, along with Jamie Vardy have been two of the best players in the league.
Harry Kane
He isn’t a one season wonder after all; Kane took the Premier League by storm last season and has continued his fine goal scoring form this season as well and certainly makes it into the best XI from 2015.
Jamie Vardy
Jamie Vardy is having a party and there can’t be any team of the year without the English forward, who just might bad a few more awards come the end of the season.
