Simply Not Good Enough – 3 Players Manchester United Should Sell/Loan Out In The January Transfer Window

Share

Though a comfortable victory over Swansea City leading into the international break lifted Manchester United to the 6th spot in the points table, Jose Mourinho, the new manager at Old Trafford, will know that his team are far from competing for the Premier League title. The millions that he spent on transfers in the summer have not helped him consistently this season and Mourinho is planning yet another overhaul in January. With a number of players linked to the club, the players in the squad will be doubtful about their places as Mourinho will already have a picture of who is leaving the club in January. With just 6 weeks left for the transfer window to reopen, here are 3 players that United must definitely sell or loan out in January:

Memphis Depay – Loan:

The Dutch international has failed to have any kind of an impression on the new manager Jose Mourinho at Old Trafford and has not been able to get into the first team in the league this season. At 22, Depay needs all the game time he can get under his belt which he will not be getting under Mourinho this season at least. So it might be best for him to make a move away from the club, and with Everton ready for a loan deal, it might be the best move for all parties involved. At his age, Depay can still grow on to become a world class player in his position and a move to Everton can only help, given the fact that he has no chance of proving himself at Old Trafford.

Bastian Schweinsteiger – Sell:

The world cup winning German midfielder is one of the most experienced and decorated players in the world. However, he was frozen out of the first-team by Mourinho at Old Trafford this season and is desperate to offload him in January. His wages are a hindrance for clubs who would like to take him to their club so Mourinho is reportedly ready to pay up to £12m to terminate his contract in January. Selling him in January will reduce the wage burden on the club and if it means that they have to pay a part of the wages should not stop them from doing so. It is clear that Schweinsteiger is not in the plans of the manager so this is a move that is set to happen for sure in January.

Matteo Darmian – Sell:

The Italian defender was a Louis van Gaal buy but he has just not been able to impress the new manager at Old Trafford. Though he started the last two games for the club, he is far from being a first choice and there is hardly any doubt that Mourinho will spend on a defender in January. This leaves Darmian with no place in the squad after the turn of the season. At his age, the Italian will have to play regularly to keep himself in shape and if continues to be on the fringes of a team, he may completely ruin his career. He should stay only if given assurances about his place in the squad and if Mourinho is unable to do so, it might be best for both parties to move their separate ways this January.
