Why Signing This Veteran English Star Is A Great Move By Rangers

Share

Mark Warburton is full of surprises as Rangers manager, the 53-year-old Englishman has been extremely busy in the transfer market and revealed yet another signing for the Ibrox club. Clint Hill, the former Queens Park Rangers defender is the latest signing to join the cavalry in Glasgow, well at least for the Gers and he could turn out to be an incredibly astute signing for them too.

Hill didn’t really play a lot of football at QPR last season as he only made 15 appearances for the Championship side but this move would certainly be beneficial to him and the club. The 37-year-old might not be the youngest player in the league but he has the experience of doing well and that should come in handy for a Rangers side that has not played in the top flight for years.

Warburton already has brought in other experienced players in the likes of Joey Barton and Kenny Miller and is in the marker for more experience in Niko Kranjcar as well. The Croat could be on board this project but for now, Hill seems to be the biggest talking point for the club.

QPR released the player simply because he was seen surplus to requirements or that he was seen as someone who could not provide a lot to a club trying to reduce its wage bill and trying to head back into the Premier League. The English defender though could use his experience and teach some of the young guns at the club a thing or two that could be one major reason as to why he was brought into Rangers in the first place.

Hill might not have the pace to deal with some of the faster forwards but he is someone who can win most aerial headers and battles and can also be a great player to have when it comes to the sheer number of games which will be played in the season.

Rangers do not have the same budget as their rivals from the Old Firm, Celtic and this is one way that they can bring in some decent players while ensuring they do not have to pay over the top for their services.

Hill might not be past his sell-by date and he has even stated that he will be trying to emulate assistant manager David Weir, who also played well into his 30s at the club. With Jordan Rossiter being a young singing at the club, it could be Hill’s experience which proves to be extremely important for the Gers as they look to win the top flight once again.
