Leeds United edged past Bristol City 1-0 at Ashton Gate to keep their newly-found winning form going and jump back to second in the table. Patrick Bamford scored the only goal of the game to seal the three points for Marcelo Bielsa’s men.
The former Middlesbrough striker, who scored a brace against West Brom last Friday, was on target again when Luke Ayling found him with a clever knockdown. The aforementioned scorer then had to just complete the finishing formalities to give his team the lead in the ninth minute.
Despite failing to add to that opening goal, Leeds were controlled in their possession game and not gave enough chances for Bristol to strike back.
Pablo Hernandez and Tyler Roberts missed good chances for the away side, while Famara Diedhiou spurned a great opportunity for City to equalise at the stroke of half-time, when he took a heavy touch instead of shooting.
In the final 10 minutes, Leeds’ slender lead was chased more vigorously by Bristol but they couldn’t find a way past Liam Cooper and Co.
This result puts Bielsa’s men in second spot and back in the running to finish in the automatic promotion places.
