Scouting For Rafa Benitez – 3 Reasons Why Newcastle Should Complete Deal For This £10m Attacker From Derby

Three Reasons Why Newcastle United Should Buy Tom Ince

The rumours linking Derby County’s Tom Ince with Newcastle United have not gone away and don’t look like doing so until for forward’s future is finally settled.

Rafa Benitez is definitely an admirer of the former Liverpool and Hull City man and here we look at three reasons why he would be a good signing for NUFC:

They Can’t Afford To Over-Rely On Magic Matt

Matt Ritchie had an excellent season on Newcastle’s right and was a major reason they eventually won the Championship. Ritchie is a Premier League player and there is no doubt about that. He would possibly start the season ahead of Ince in the pecking order should he sign for the Toon.

In the Premier League though, there are no easy games and a fully fit and firing Matt Ritchie is what Newcastle will need if they are to succeed. Other than Christian Atsu, who was a hit and miss at first, and with him being a left-sided winger, there was not a lot of cover for Ritchie this season and he played a lot of minutes. Having someone not only to push him but also to cover for him when he is out will be something new to Benitez and would be very welcome indeed.

His Potential

It feels like Ince has been around forever, but it must be remembered that he is still only 25 and has tons of potential to be unlocked. Every year his goal scoring record gets better and by now he looks like he is ready for the Premier League once again. He will be better with a few more months behind him, especially working with Rafa.

They Won’t Pay Over The Odds

Buying from the Premier League these days seems to come with a massive premium. Clubs are not desperate to sell and so they feel they can charge what they want. Buying from the Championship is slightly different though, and most players have their price.

This is especially true at Derby, where it seems no secret that they are willing to offload Ince for around the £10million mark to help finance Gary Rowett’s squad rebuilding – something promoted by owner Mel Morris. £10million is very little by Premier League standards and so Newcastle can afford to take the risk on a player who seems motivated to prove himself again at the top level.
