Predicted Newcastle United line-up to face Tottenham in the Premier League

Newcastle United begin their Premier League season with a tough home game against Tottenham Hotspur at St.James’ Park. The Magpies had an underwhelming transfer window but manager Rafa Benitez has shown in the past that he is capable of extracting the best out of his squad.

The addition of Salomon Rondon, Yoshinori Muto and Ki Sung-Yueng will have a good impact, and Newcastle fans will be hoping that their players step in the first game of the season. Benitez usually prefers the 4-2-3-1 system with two holding central midfielders, two wingers and a No.10 supporting the target man.

Probabe Newcastle XI

Manager: Rafa Benitez

Formation: 4-2-3-1

Martin Dubravka (GK)

Dubravka was one of the loan signings of the January transfer window and Newcastle must be delighted the goalkeeper has joined them on a permanent basis.

De Andre Yedlin (RB)

The American speedster has been a regular in thet right-back position and expect him to keep flourishing.

Jamaal Lascelles

Jamaal Lascelles (CB)

The captain of the team and deservingly so, Lascelles has been a colossus at the back for the Magpies.

Fabian Schar (CB)

Recruited this summer, Schar will partner Lascelles in central defence, with Florian Lejeune injured long-term.

Paul Dummett (LB)

Newcastle are short on options in the left-back position and Dummett has done well whenever called upon. He should start.

Jonjo Shelvey

Jonjo Shelvey (CM)

Shelvey is one of the key figures for the Magpies in central midfield, with his passing from deeper positions and shooting from distance.

Ki Sung Yueng (CDM)

Ki was bought this summer from Swansea and is expected to be the base of that Newcastle midfield. The South Korean is adept in shielding the back-four and passing the ball forward.

Ayoze Perez (CAM)

Perez has been a long-term servant for the club and would support new man Salomon Rondon up top. Benitez will expect more goals from him this season.

Matt Ritchie (RW)

Ritchie was one of the vital components for Newcastle last season with his deadly crossing from wide areas. He would love the physical presence of Rondon as his crosses would be put to use.

Kenedy

Kenedy (LW)

This is Kenedy’s chance to showcase his talent by having a good season with the Magpies. If he makes that left-wing position his own, potential suitors will come along very soon.

Salomon Rondon (ST)

Recruited this summer to add physicality and goal threat. The Venezuelan is a very good target man to have up front. He can run the channels and create space for midfield runners. He would also be an excellent aerial threat inside the box.
