Rangers News: Tommy Wright, the manager of St. Johnstone has offered his thoughts on Alfredo Morelos’ suspension while speaking to the Daily Record.
The Colombian striker was sent off after getting in a brawl with Aberdeen player Scott Mckenna last week at the Pittodrie stadium. In the wake of the event, Morelos has been handed a three-match ban.
Despite being the star striker for Rangers this season the Colombian hasn’t been able to keep his temperament in check. In fact, Morelos has received four red cards so far in this campaign.
Following Steven Gerrard and many others, Wright has also weighed in his thoughts over Morelos’ sending off.
He has expressed his delight over the ban and said (h/t Daily Record)
“it was always going to be difficult for Rangers to overturn his ban because the rules say there has to be an obvious error by the referee.
“I didn’t think this one was ever going to be overturned. Morelos was the difference in our game at Perth when we lost 2-1.
“It is unfortunate for them but good news for us because Morelos is a top- quality player.”
Morelos has scored 15 goals in the Premiership so far which makes him the top scorer and Gerrard would find it hard to replace the striker in the upcoming games.
The Colombian found the back of the net 18 times from 43 games for the Gers last season and has already surpassed that this season. The 22-year-old has 23 strikes in all competitions under Steven Gerrard this season and seems set for a few more before the campaign ends.
The Light blues are set to face St. Johnstone at Ibrox later this week. They then face Kilmarnock in a Scottish Cup replay in midweek.
