PL Team Of The Week (Week 34): Featuring Liverpool And Manchester City Stars

Share

Week 34 of the Premier League saw Arsenal being held once again at home but the story of the weekend was Aston Villa officially getting relegated. Sunderland and Newcastle picked up huge wins while Manchester United also got the three points against Villa.

There was a lot of drama at the King Power Stadium as West Ham drew 2-2 with Leicester and well Tottenham have a chance of cutting the gap if they can beat Stoke City on Monday. We look back over the weekend and list out the best XI, of course, this would be without any Tottenham or Stoke City players.

Heurelho Gomes

The former Tottenham goalkeeper has been incredible for Watford ever since signing for them and was at his best once again as he saved two penalties against West Brom and ensured that Watford got the three points against West Brom.

Nicolas Otamendi

The Argentine has not had the best season so far but certainly he was incredible against Chelsea and his tackles and man management ensured that the Citizens came out with a clean sheet and all three points.

Lamina Kone

Sam Allardyce has given Sunderland a new lease of life and Kone was absolutely incredible in defence for the Black Cats as they picked up a great three points and kept a clean sheet against Norwich.

Jamaal Lascelles

Newcastle need a minor miracle to survive and Lascelles has shown that at least they can defend. Rafa Benitez needs more performances like this in the coming games if the Magpies are to stay in the Premier League.

Fernandinho

The Manchester City midfielder was excellent at Stamford Bridge and ensured that he not only protected the defence but also cut out any threat the Chelsea midfield had in the game.

Yaya Toure

Fernandinho’s midfield partner might not be 100% but he certainly pulled the strings and he was excellent to ensure that Manchester City come out with all three points against Chelsea.

Lee Cattermole

The English midfielder might not have the greatest reputation on the field but he was brilliant for Sunderland against Norwich.

Jack Colback

Another Newcastle star makes it big into the team with an assured performance in midfield as he not only shielded the defence well but also took part in attack for the team.

Kevin De Bruyne

What a return it has been for De Bruyne, not only is he scoring goals but also is providing assists, like he did for Sergio Aguero in the first goal against the Blues. De Bruyne is an integral part of the club and with him in the side, they could win the Champions League.

Jordon Ibe

The Liverpool youngster might not have played a lot of games this season but in a youthful side, Ibe was fantastic against Bournemouth as he set up both the goals, well, almost the first goal. Ibe was a threat all game long and certainly gives Jurgen Klopp a lot to think about.

Sergio Aguero

The Manchester City star scored another hat-trick, even if this season has not been as great as it could have, Aguero showed that he is someone who can score at any time and certainly made life difficult for Chelsea.
