Predicted Southampton Lineup To Face Huddersfield Town In The Premier League

Southampton will take on Premier League newcomers Huddersfield Town in the third match-week at the John Smith Stadium, on Saturday afternoon.

The Saints have collected four points from the first two games, drawing their first fixture against Swansea City, before clinching a last-ditch 3-2 win over West Ham United last weekend. But, they will be disappointed with the 2-0 loss against Wolverhampton Wanderers in the EFL Cup on Wednesday night and manager Mauricio Pellegrino will be keen on bouncing back against the Terriers, who sit second in the league table.

Team News

Mario Lemina is the only doubt due to a shin injury for the Saints. Virgil van Dijk is fit, but is unlikely to be picked until his future is resolved. Southampton have confirmed the signing of centre-back Wesley Hoedt from Lazio, but the Dutchman might have to make do with a role on the bench on Saturday.

Manager: Mauricio Pellegrino

Formation: 4-2-3-1

Fraser Forster (GK)

The England international will continue to take his spot between the sticks for the Saints, at the John Smith stadium.

Cedric Soares (RB)

The Portuguese right-back is one of the most consistent performers for the South Coast club, and should be reinstated to the starting XI, after being benched for the midweek game.

Cedric Soares

Jack Stephens (CB)

The centre-back started in a defensive midfield role against Wolves. Expect him to return to the heart of the defence on Saturday.

Maya Yoshida (CB)

The Japanese centre-half will partner Stephens against the Terriers. Will have to keep the threat of Steve Mounie under check.

Ryan Bertrand (LB)

The England international will return to the playing XI after sitting out on Wednesday night. Sam McQueen will make way.

Steven Davis (CM)

The club captain will assume his duties at the middle of the park, after having been benched for the cup encounter.

Ryan Bertrand

Oriol Romeu (CM)

The midfield general for Southampton, Romeu is a vital cog in the scheme of things and has to start week in, week out.

James Ward-Prowse (RW)

The 22-year old academy man will start on the right flank for the Saints. A lot is expected from the talented midfielder and he needs to start delivering.

Dusan Tadic (CAM)

The Serb will slot into the hole behind the striker and look to pull the strings for his team. Is vital to Southampton’s chances.

Dusan Tadic (centre)

Nathan Redmond (LW)

The England youth international will return to the playing XI after making an appearance from the bench on Wednesday night.

Manolo Gabbiadini (ST)

Another one who was benched against Wolves, the Italian centre-forward could feature from the get-go against Huddersfield, replacing Charlie Austin.
