Arsenal Opinion: Where are they now – Arsenal’s 2014 FA Cup-winning XI?

Arsene Wenger’s Arsenal ended their trophy drought in May 2014 after a 3-2 victory against Hull City in the FA Cup final. The Gunners had a disastrous start to the game as they went 2-0 down in the first 8 mins. However, Santi Cazorla’s brilliant free-kick paved the way for an incredible comeback but where are the players now?

Lukasz Fabianski

The Pole was instrumental in the FA Cup campaign as he saved 2 penalties in the shootout in the semi-final against Wigan. Fabianski left the Gunners at the end of the season and joined Swansea. After 4 years in Wales, he moved to West Ham at the start of the season and has been a regular.

Bacary Sagna

The Frenchman, like Fabianski, left Arsenal at the end of the campaign and joined Manchester City on a free transfer. Sagna now plays his football in America with MLS side Montreal Impact.

Per Mertesacker

The BFG played for the Gunners till the end of last season and hung up his boots after a magnificent career. Mertesacker now manages Arsenal’s youth academy team.

Laurent Koscielny

The Frenchman scored the all-important equaliser in the game against Hull City. Koscielny is the club captain today and is still going strong at the age 33.

Nacho Monreal

La Cabra lifted the first ever trophy in his career with the Gunners against Hull City and is still an important player of the squad today.

Mikel Arteta

The captain on the night stayed with Arsenal for the next 2 years before announcing his retirement from professional football. Arteta is now a part of Pep Guardiola’s coaching staff at Manchester City.

Aaron Ramsey

The Welshman scored the winner on the night and was named as the man of the match. Ramsey is still a part of the Arsenal squad today but will be leaving the club in the summer after signing a pre-contract with Italian champions Juventus.

Santi Cazorla

The Spanish magician scored the opening goal with a brilliant free-kick at Wembley and stayed an important part of the Gunners’ squad in the following season.

Cazorla’s Arsenal career went downhill from them after he suffered a terrible Achilles injury that sadly ended his time at North London. Cazorla has now recovered and plays for Villareal today.

Mesut Ozil

Ozil has since 2 more FA Cups with the Gunners since that victory against Hull City. The German World Cup winner signed a new contract with the club and is an integral part of Arsenal today.

Lukas Podolski

Podolski, a fan favourite, left Arsenal on loan to Inter Milan in January 2015 before leaving the club permanently 6 months later to join Galatasaray. After 2 years with the Turkish club, Podolski joined Japanese side Vissel Kobe and plays for the club till date.
